Welcome to my personal website! I am a second-year PhD student at the College of Asia and the Pacific, Australian National University, studying the fascinating topic of language variation and change in multilingual-multicultural spaces. Experience

Language consultant

Boston University

I assisted Professor Kate Lindsey in her course on 'Linguistic Field Methods' at Boston University. Together, we had the opportunity to study the Bannegeira variety of Assamese, which is spoken in the Barnagar sub-division of Barpeta, Assam. Through this course, I gained valuable experience in linguistic fieldwork and had the privilege of exploring the intricacies of this fascinating language variety.

Invited lectures

Tezpur University

I had the opportunity to assist Dr. Sanjib Deka in teaching two courses - 'AS 414: Introduction to Linguistics' and 'AS 406: Structure of Assamese' - at Tezpur University. These courses were designed for students pursuing an MA in Assamese, and it was a privilege to be part of their educational journey. Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into the teaching of linguistics and had the opportunity to share my passion for the subject with others.

Principle Investigator

Documentation of Chomankan

This project aims at documenting Chomangkan, a Karbi community festival that pays tribute to the decedents. The Firebird Foundation for Anthropological Research supported the project. The data for the project was collected in multiple phases and at different locations, especially in the district of Karbi Anglong, Assam. I have worked on this project with a group of five researchers from different disciplines (cultural studies, linguistics, anthropology).

Projects

Assamese Dialectology Project

Australian National University

The Assamese Dialectology Project (ADIP) aims to comprehensively document and describe the dialect regions of Assamese within their rich socio-cultural and historical contexts, integrating traditional and modern dialectology, along with dialectometry. Drawing upon methods from corpus linguistics, variationist sociolinguistics, and socio-phonetics, it employs a multimodal method for data processing and statistical analysis.
